Dreaming of Summer?

At KB Pools we’ve been spoiled with some occasional summer-like weather, even though it’s the dead of winter.  Just a couple weeks ago, we went to the beach.  Yes, it was actually that nice outside!  Granted, the water was a little too cold for comfort, but nonetheless, the weather was simply beautiful.

What exactly is it about warm weather that we love so much?
As someone who has travelled all over the country, I enjoy the snow... building snowmen, having snowball fights, making snow angels, just watching the beautiful white snowflakes fall to the ground while sitting by a cozy fire.  But I’ve got to admit, Florida has spoiled me.  The beaches, the scenery, the warmth... it’s all so breathtakingly beautiful.

According to science, we crave the sunshine due to our need for Vitamin D.  Vitamin D is essential for good health.  It fights illnesses, boosts weight loss, helps fight depression, amongst a variety of other benefits.  But Vitamin D is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to sunshine and warmer weather.

What exactly does this all have to do with Pools?  Well, these occasional days of warm weather are giving us a taste of what’s to come.  Believe it or not, the hot weather will be here before we know it. This means pool owners need to start thinking about getting their pools ready for the summer.  Whether or not you’ve covered your pool or kept it open, here are some tips to ensure your pool is swim ready when temperatures rise in the coming months.

Spring Pool Tips:

1) Open Your Pool Early.  The earlier you open and/or kickstart your pool, the less algae growth you’ll see.  Warm weather is a breeding ground for algae, and the longer it sits without proper maintenance, the harder it’ll be to rid your pool of it.

2) Protect Your Pool Surface and Liner.  Algae growth can be detrimental to your pool surface and liner.  It can cause discoloration and even staining.  This can be very difficult to clean if left too long and can even cause permanent damage.

3) Keep Equipment Working Properly.  When equipment is allowed to sit and be left dormant for too long, it can cause issues.  To avoid any unnecessary problems, limit the time pumps and equipment are not used.

4) Schedule your Opening or Kickstart Pool Service!  We offer full pool opening service as well as a kickstart opening service for those of you who kept your pools open but need to have the water balanced and equipment checked.  And don’t forget, we offer weekly and bi-weekly pool cleaning service as well to keep your pool beautiful year round!

And as we continue to grind through these winter months, remember, warmer weather is just around the corner!
